The Ridely Tree Cancer Center’s Nuclear Medicine Department, located within the Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital Campus, has accomplished the phasing goals with the addition of the New Hot Lab completed in 2021, to move forward with the highly anticipated department remodel for the new GE Healthcare – Discovery IM PET/CT Scanner. The New PETCT Modernization Project includes the addition of three (3) New Injector Rooms, New Contaminated
Materials Storage, New Unisex Patient Restroom with Locker Storage, New Scanner Room with New Equipment Room and remodel of the existing shared Control Room.
Our goal was to maintain the existing Nuclear Medicine operations while construction activities were underway with minimal disruptions to the Hospital facility was accomplished through express communications with hospital facilities management, coordination with the nuclear medicine department director, clinicians, and physicians. Our communication with the Physicist during the design process for the new shielding requirements while and maintaining the existing adjacent shielding allowed us to eliminate disruptions to the existing occupied adjacent spaces during the construction activities.
The interior transformation was a huge success with both patients and staff, from the aesthetics of the new flooring and ceilings, and updating the life safety functions of the fire partitions to the new nurse call system, no longer dependent on a switchboard operator.
