Architecture
In a design-build collaboration, 19six and AMG & Associates renovated the historic 1927 Crandall Gymnasium Building for office use to serve as a swing space for faculty, staff, and students in preparation for other upcoming projects on the California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo campus. The first tenant is Library Services, which is using the spaces to provide temporary offices and limited library functions for the duration of the recently commenced major renovation project of Kennedy Library.
In addition to the ample open space, this newly renovated 14,588 sf facility also features private offices, a conference room, restrooms, and additional support spaces while preserving the historic bleachers and Cal Poly logo from the center of the basketball court as a nod to the building’s past. Improvements were also made to the electrical infrastructure serving this building and those closely surrounding it and to the exterior parking and path of travel to ensure accessibility.
